Long before Barcelona’s coastline became chiringuiri-landia, there was a family-owned restaurant on the only stretch of natural beach in Barceloneta called Las Dos Hermanas. For many years, a strong matriarch ran it alongside her female kin. When, many moons later, two lovely sisters opened a small restaurant on Blai to bless us with good vermut, great tapeo, vins, cervesas and more, they paid homage to their tía abuela and named their new family restaurant La Tieta. They buy anchovies and boquerones from a stand in the Mercat de Sant Antoni that they keep secret and, amics, they are to die for. Try the “matrimonio” and try their tartar de salmon. And, apparently, their caldo (winter only) with garbanzos, brochette of potato, pilota, tocino, and carrot, is great as well. To be tried as temperatures drop. Oh, and the escalivada with warm goat cheese is epic, but they’re thinking of striking it from the menu. Don’t make us start a petition online!
