16.03 – Andy & the Independent Label Market

We heard it from the horse’s mouth: the highlight of this year’s Independent Label Market is the expo and DJ-set of Andy Votel, founder of Finders Keepers. Superflyrecords sums the musician up like that: “Mancunian born Andy Votel came from an era of record collecting and DJ’ing that had more in common with scrap metal haulage than expensive trophy chasing. Spending his early teens making “music” with crudely modified old vinyl LPs, kitchen utensils and cassette tape loops his continued search for discarded noise lead him to run one of the most respected vinyl re-issue labels in the world (Finders Keepers) and be involved in over 250 record releases covering every aspect in making, breaking and mistaking experimental pop music.” (more info and five rare, selected tracks)

So far so good, but it gets better. Co-organizer of the Independent Label Market (IML) and BCN Més’ one and only music columnist, Mark Dix, tells us that Votel not only plays at Laut on Friday but he’ll also inaugurate an exhibition of his original paintings at Karen Klink’s studio in deep Raval on carrer Arc del Teatre 55. Find the FB event with more info here.

Last but not least, the inauguration of the record fair takes place tonight at Meteoro, Poble Sec’s new music venue.
